The University of Nice was officially founded on October 23, 1965. However, its predecessor can be traced back to the 17th century with the Collegium Jurisconsultorum Niciensium, founded in 1635 by the Prince of Savoy, that became an important school of law, jurisdiction and consultancy. The official founding of the University of Nice in 1965 made it a multidisciplinary university, consisting of the faculty of letters, sciences, law, and economics.
